The Best Digital Hearing Aids

The Best Digital Hearing Aids
Generally, hearing impairment comes with aging. But these old citizens still want to enjoy life even after retirement. They still want to enjoy the music that they love, now that they have more time to enjoy them. What they need are the best digital hearing aids available.
The earlier hearing devices are too cumbersome to use and to move around with. It was in 1987 when these best digital hearing aids appeared. But they were inefficient; thus, they failed to drum up interest on them. They are too bulky, need frequent recharging of battery and too sensitive to background noises. A car serene is unbearable for an inefficient hearing device.
But like other prototype gadgets, engineers and doctor worked on them to improve the performance of these hearing aids; and the result of these are the best hearing aids possible. This hearing aid has the following added features:
Digital Feedback Reduction (DFR) - feedback sounds are nuisance to a hearing aid user. To reduce feedback from TV, radio, speakers or just plain chewing a gum, the user frequently adjust the volume of his hearing aid. But now, this is a thing of the past. Best aids now, adjust the volume automatically, depending on the sound feedback.
Digital Noise Reduction (DNR) - this technology reduces low level noises that can be very irritating to the user.
Digital Speech Enhancement (DSE) - this is an important feature of the latest and best digital aids in the market. It modulates and makes speech pattern more understandable for the user. This is the most high-end technology and most useful addition to the features of best digital hearing aids.
But before you buy a digital hearing aid, it is a must that you first consult and be examined by a medical ear specialist. Like eyes, your ears have also grade classifications, wherein the digital hearing aid must be adopted. Even a best digital hearing aid will not work for you right, if it is not fitted to your hearing requirement.

Windows 7 on Netbooks

1. Windows 7 on Netbooks

Now that notebooks outsell desktop PCs and low-power and low-priced netbooks are so popular, mobile performance and battery life will matter more than ever for Windows 7. “The notebook used to be just a mobile desktop,” points out Microsoft’s vice president for Windows Product Management, Mike Nash. Now, he says, notebooks need to cope with more complicated scenarios. “A machine will turn on in one place, turn off in another, go to sleep on one network, wake on another,” Nash says. Windows 7 is intended to give notebooks longer battery life, easier networking, better security, and run on much less-powerful machines than Vista—including netbooks.
At the recent Windows Hardware Engineering Conference (WinHEC), Microsoft showed Windows 7 running on a range of netbooks, including the Asus EEE 901 PC, the Dell Inspiron Mini 9, the MSI Wind and even the VIA-powered HP 2133 Mini-Note. Microsoft didn’t set out to create a special version of Windows 7 for low-power machines like netbooks, but general improvements in performance turn out to make a big difference—especially changes to the Desktop Windows Manager. In Vista, the amount of memory used increases linearly as you open more windows; in Windows 7, as long as you have a WDDM v1.1 driver, opening more windows uses much less additional memory.
Using a beta of Windows 7, we were able to open over 100 windows in a mix of applications on a Lenovo X300 notebook with Intel 965-based graphics and a WDDM v1.1 driver, without seeing a warning about the system running slow enough to suggest switching to Aero Basic. On a Dell Inspiron Mini 9 with an Intel Atom processor, which has Intel 945-based graphics for which we couldn’t find a WDDM v1.1 driver, we saw the warning with only 21 windows open; performance, however, was as good as with Windows XP, if not better.
Other performance improvements reduce the amount of disk I/O for reading from the registry and indexing files for search, and improve low-level kernel operations that could slow down access to the Start menu and Taskbar. Windows 7 also loads fewer services when you boot. This doesn’t just get you started more quickly; it means there are fewer services actively resident in memory just because you might need them. When you do something that requires a service, Windows 7 loads the service on demand and then unloads it once it’s no longer required—thus freeing up memory.
Services can be set to start automatically, but only when they’re needed--rather than at startup.

Review Panasonic Toughbook CF-W8 Notebook

Review Panasonic Toughbook CF-W8 Notebook

By Martina Osztovits 09/10/10
Business Ruggedized.
Panasonic wants to collect points from their customers with an especially stable case that allegedly protects the Toughbook CF-W8 against several damages. Of course, the communication alignment doesn't come too short in this ultra-mobile device for business clients. Panasonic has also kept a matt, and in view of this, suitable VDU workstation in mind. To what extent the Toughbook CF-W8 can also convince in our test is clarified in the following review.

Test Panasonic Toughbook CF-W8
Panasonic Computer Products Europe are specialized on manufacturing especially stable and resistant notebooks. These are, according to the manufacturer, tested in elaborate test procedures in extremely true to life circumstances, whereas a special weight is put on "Mobility, technical superiority and convincing resistance".
Panasonic categorizes its notebooks in view of resistance as full-ruggedized, semi-ruggedized, and finally, business ruggedized. The CF-W8 belongs to the last category. What this means in regards to drop, spill and pressure resistance in detail, will be comprehensively described in the following categories.

Case

Opposing the trend to build extremely thin notebooks, the rather massive case for a 12.1 inch device struck us right away after unpacking it. This is also confirmed after measuring it. With this, it belongs to the front runners with a construction height of 48.3 millimeters. Because Panasonic has selected a display in a 4:3 size, the depth of 214 millimeters applies, and the breadth of 272 millimeters turns out accordingly. However, not only the massive size has an influence on the device's stability but also the choice of materials. The manufacturer states that the enabled notebook should be able to swallow drops from a height of up to 76 cm on the its bottom and drops of up to 30 centimeters from other angles in a disabled state, whereas the manufacturer has tested it in 26 different angles, due to the use of a magnesium alloy. Pressure loads of up to 100 kg/f, that correlates to 980 Newton, aren't supposed to be a problem for the CF-W8, either. Because we handle our prototypes with care, we didn't reproduce these strains.
Those who come to the conclusion that the CF-W8 has to make a plump impression already due to its construction, are wrong. Moreover, the silver-colored surfaces give it a certain elegance.
The surface feel is pleasant due to the magnesium alloy. Also, the slightly beveled design with a lower construction height along the front edge makes ergonomical typing possible.
As expected, the torsional stiffness and pressure test turned out by and large to our satisfaction. The only weak point was shown under point pressure on the right wrist rest, underneath which the optical drive is found.
The opening angle is restricted to ca. 140 degrees due to the angled hinges fastened on the display. The hinges may appear small but they do a good job. The display barely teeters after adjusting the opening angle and they handle even shaky work surfaces (train journey) perfectly. Panasonic has omitted a transportation closure but, vice versa, the grip of the hinges is also sufficient to keep the notebook closed. But you shouldn't consider trying to adjust the opening angle single-handedly.

Connectivity

Wie wir testen - Gehäuse
Primarily, the innovative position of the optical drive jumps at you. It's opened upwards via a slider on the front edge and enabled at the same time. Closing the DVD drive without a data carrier, disables it after a few minutes to save power. This solution is pleasing in view of operation. Unfortunately there are disadvantages in regards to the right palm rest's pressure resistance, as already mentioned above.
Additionally found on the front edge are the power slider, which lights up green at activation, the headphone and microphone socket, the WiFi switch and Status LEDs for ECO mode, battery and optical drive.
The left side accommodates a VGA port, a docking port, a PC card slot and a SDHC cardreader. The compatible mini-port replicator can be connected to the docking port, which extends the interface supply by 4 USB 2.0, and simplifies the fast connection to an already existing work surrounding with a VGA and LAN port.
On the right there are three USB 2.0 ports, LAN (RJ-45) and a modem connection (RJ-11). The rear has to kept free from interfaces due to the opening mechanisms. A narrow gap above the keyboard's left becomes visible when the battery is removed.
Basically, the connectivity is, in view of the size, good and the distribution can be called felicitous as all potentially permanently occupied interfaces are found more in the rear of the side edges.

The Toughbook CF-W8 can be connected to the Intel 82567LM Gigabit Network connection (10/100/1000MBit) LAN via a cable. In places with a poor infrastructure, the modem connection (RJ-11) might just make internet access feasible.
Aside from an Intel Wireless WiFi Link 5100 AGN (abgn) module there is also Bluetooth 2.0+EDR available, for wireless communication.
Optionally, but not in our prototype, the CF-W8 can also be attained with an UMTS/HSDPA (Gobi) broadband modem for fast wireless internet connections. Equally optional, a fingerprint reader can be selected, whereas you have to then waiver on the Bluetooth module.
We found a printed product description, a modem cable, the Panasonic Wireless WAN (HSPA) SW included in the prototype's package. The long standard warranty of 36 months - with exception of expendable items such as the battery - deserves a special mention.
Microsoft XP Professional with Service Pack 2 (in English) was preinstalled on our prototype. But the CF-W8 is also available with Windows Vista Business Service Pack 1. Various preinstalled utilities support the user in the device's setup, operation and maintenance: Battery tools, the PC Information Viewer, electronic manuals, the Fan-Control Utility, the Icon Enlarger (a magnifying utility), tools for the optical drive (drive letter assignment and energy savings configuration) and the Power Saving Utility.

Do what you will to the 10.1 Megapixel µ 1050 SW: drop it, wash it or shoot with it in below-freezing temperatures. Shockproof to 1.5m, waterproof to 3m and freezeproof to -10°C, this extension to Olympus’ most robust compact line-up sports a chic new design that makes it even more fun to take with you no matter you go. A newly-developed TAP control interface lets users trade the press of a button for the tap of a finger: adjust settings and review images on the µ [mju:] 1050 SW’s extra large 6.9cm/2.7” HyperCrystal II LCD by applying a simple tap or two to the exterior of the camera. The integrated 3x optical zoom (38-114mm*) guarantees safety in action with its use of an inner-folded light path – one of the keys to this camera’s uniquely compact design.

Technologies galore
With the µ [mju:] 1050 SW, users can concentrate on getting great shots without distractions. Dependably sharp shots are assured every time thanks to Digital Image Stabilisation which automatically adjusts ISO levels to compensate for blur at slow shutter speeds. Meanwhile, integrated Advanced Face Detection and Shadow Adjustment Technology detect human subjects (up to 16 faces) and shadowy parts of an image to optimise the exposure and sharpness – so results come out closer to what the human eye sees. What’s more, the effect of various settings on the outcome – such as exposure compensation – can be previewed with the Perfect Shot Preview function. Incorporation of BrightCapture Technology also means that it is always easy to frame and review shots on the LCD, even in low light. And the TruePic III image processor provides triple enhancement to image results with improved noise reduction, significantly faster image processing speeds and more realistic reproduction of colours.

All the trimmings
There’s a µ [mju:] 1050 SW for everybody. With a unique exterior available in an array of exciting colours including Dolphin Grey, Pacific Blue, Midnight Black and Misty Rose, this model lets users express themselves like never before. Plus, the availability of menus in 39 different languages ensures that virtually anyone across the world can operate the µ [mju:] 1050 SW in their native tongue. What’s more, the inclusion of a bundled attachment, photographers can store their memories on microSD Card in addition to xD-Picture Card.

The shockproof**, waterproof*** and freezeproof (to -10°C) Olympus µ [mju:] 1050 SW will be available at the end of September 2008.

Smart Laptop Bag For Home By Manisha Kanetkar

Smart Laptop Bag For Home By Manisha Kanetkar | Monday | 08/01/2007

According to Belkin's Kannyn MacRae, "80 percent of laptops are used in the home, and of those about 40 percent don't leave the home." As one such laptop @ home user, the idea of a notebook case which is designed to keep your laptop safe as you transport it around the house seemed like a pretty neat idea.
The nice thing about the PocketTop, which sits alongside the SleeveTop and CushTop in the new Belkin Laptop @ Home range, is that it actually doubles as a mini workstation too. This means that you can unzip the bag, pull the lid up and place the whole thing on your lap to work on your computer. The laptop itself sits on two raised bars, so it is raised off the bottom of the case to allow for better ventilation, to prevent it from overheating. Meanwhile, the case provides a comfortable cushion to sit on your lap – this also means your lap doesn't get too hot after an hour or two working on the laptop.

Then once you've finished working on your laptop, you can zip up the case and leave it on the sofa, without much danger of damaging it when your partner sits on it accidentally later. (This was actually tested, and the notebook came out just fine!) Living in a small apartment without a study or designated workstation, the problem of where and how to store a laptop was very real. The PocketTop was handy as it is sturdy and fairly compact, and acted as a portable workstation which could be tucked under the bed after use.
The bag does not have an over the shoulder strap, only a built in pocket that serves as a handle. This means that once you've got your notebook and charger stuffed in the case, the whole bag can be a bit heavy to carry. However, as it is designed to be taken no further than from the study to the bedroom to the lounge room, this wasn't really found to be a problem. However an extra pocket, or a zippable external pocket would have been appreciated to allow for more easy storage of chargers, USB modems and other common laptop peripherals.
The only other real issue we found with the case, was that when first opened out of the packet, there was a pretty strong new plastic smell that came out of it. But, a good day's airing seemed to do the trick.
Overall this is a smart product that is addressing a gap in the market – not only in the sense of creating a sturdy portable workstation for your laptop at home, but also offering a case that is not in the usual laptop bag colour range (aka black). The PocketTop as well as the CushTop and SleeveTop come in the not-so-boring colour range of grey, bright orange and lime green.

Toshiba Satellite T135 Review part II

Build quality is very nice despite the very thin chassis. Flex and squeaks are kept to a minimum on the lower half of the body, and a metal plate over the hard drive helps keep the vital components safe. The screen cover feels durable as well, although it has just a hair of flex near the section next to the screen hinges which creaked if you gripped it over that spot. If you don't have a death grip over the notebook, it shouldn't present any sort of problems. The glossy finish on the body holds up very well to scratches, which is a must since you will probably be wiping it down frequently to keep it clean of fingerprints and smudges. The pattern does a good job of hiding small prints, but it will eventually hit a critical mass that will need a microfiber rub-down.

Users looking to upgrade internal components shouldn't have any problem getting to the system memory or hard drive as long as they have a good set of precision screwdrivers. The Toshiba Satellite T135 is unique in that it uses Torx screws for the hard drive plate ... which aren't always kept in the average person's arsenal of tools. The memory slot cover used standard Phillips screws, so that can be opened even with very common tools. No warranty void if removed stickers were found anywhere, so it should be safe to swap out components without risking your support contract.

Screen and Speakers
The 13.3" LED-backlit screen rates about average compared to other similarly sized screens. Color saturation appears to be above average, but the weaker contrast ratio doesn't help with really deep black backgrounds. Viewing angles rate slightly below average, with colors quickly inverting both vertically and horizontally. Vertical viewing angles start to show color inversion about 15 degrees forward or back. Horizontal viewing angles start to show color distortion at about 45 degrees, mostly in the darker colors. Viewing brightness is adequate for viewing in bright conditions, but outdoor visibility is limited from the amount of reflections off the panel surface.

Speaker quality seemed below average, with a very low peak volume level. Even with the system volume and application volume maxed, it didn't sound much louder than most systems at 50-60%. My best guess as to the reason behind this is the super small speaker drivers and location underneath the palmrest. Sound quality was average for a notebook of this size, with weak bass and midrange audio. Headphones should be a required accessory for this notebook.
Keyboard and Touchpad
The full-size keyboard is comfortable to type on and offers excellent support even under very strong pressure. I found the palmrest size to be just perfect to rest my wrists without causing any stress points while typing. The individual keys had a reasonable springy action and, while not as stiff as other keyboard, is still very responsive. Each key had a non-cupped flat surface, similar to a Chiclet-style keyboard but without the sharp drop-off between each key. Typing noise was minimal, with very little sound emitted when each key was triggered. Consumers who are thinking about buying this notebook for typing long documents should have no problems whatsoever.

The Synaptics touchpad was a slight disappointment in that it had a very slow refresh rate. Compared to other touchpads where you can draw circles quick enough to the point where the cursor starts to test the refresh rate of the panel, this particular version reminded us of those old mouse trails. Replacing the drivers with the latest ones offered on the Synaptics website was of no use, since it exhibited the same problem with those as well. The good news though is with the drivers uninstalled, the slow refresh speeds were gone, meaning that it is entirely a driver problem. Going without the drivers isn't the best option for most uses though, since you lose helpful features like scrolling, and corrective features that equalize movement on the X and Y axis. Not counting the driver problems, the touchpad wasn't that bad to use with a great surface texture that allowed you to glide your fingertip effortlessly across the surface. The touchpad buttons could have been improved, as they are part of a single span that pivots at the center. If you normally center your finger by feel alone, you might accidentally click on the middle (which doesn't move) or click on the wrong side.
Ports and Features
Port selection is fairly good when compared to ultraportable notebooks, but without an ExpressCard slot it is lacking compared to regular notebooks. The T135 includes three USB ports, VGA and HDMI-out, LAN, audio jacks, and a Kensington Lock slot. Expansion slots include just the 6-in-1 SDHC-compatible card reader.

Front: Indicator lights

Rear: Battery

Left: Kensington Lock slot, VGA, HDMI, one USB

Right: 6-in-1 card slot, audio jacks, two USB, LAN, AC power

Toshiba Satellite T135

  1. Review
  1. Toshiba Satellite T135 Performance, Benchmarks and Conclusion
The 13-inch Toshiba Satellite T135 is an Intel CULV-powered ultraportable boasting long battery life, a thin chassis, and a very low weight. Powered by the 1.3GHz SU4100 and Intel X4500 integrated graphics this notebook is a big step above netbooks but still offers many similar features that are attractive to people who don't want to lug around a full-size notebook. In this review we see how well the Toshiba Satellite T135 performs in our tests, and if it is really worth the price premium over a standard netbook.
Toshiba Satellite T135 Specifications:
  • 1.3GHz Intel Pentium Dual Core(2MB Cache, 800MHz FSB)
  • 4GB PC3-8500 DDR3 (2 x 2GB)
  • Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit
  • 13.3" WXGA HD TruBrite LED Backlit display (1366x768)
  • 320GB 5400RPM Toshiba SATA Hard Drive
  • Intel X4500M Integrated Graphics
  • Realtek 802.11b/g/n, Atheros 10/100 LAN
  • 6-in-1 card reader
  • 6-Cell Li-ion 61WH battery (70Wh reported), 65W Power Supply
  • Dimensions: (W x L x H) 12.7" x 8.78" x 0.87"/1.35"
  • Weight: 3lbs 12.9oz (with 6-cell battery)
  • Price as configured: $709.99

Build and Design
The Toshiba Satellite T135 is a stylish ultraportable that looks like a standard notebook from up top, but is much thinner when you see its side profile. Toshiba keeps the profile only a fraction of an inch thicker than the ports on the side of the notebook, though this is done in large part by cutting out things like an ExpressCard slot and optical drive. For the average user this notebook has all the advantages of a standard computer--a 13.3" display and full-size keyboard--but none of the bulk. The color scheme looks nice, although the red is more of a slight purple or pink than what a deep red should look like. Toshiba offers multiple color schemes for this notebook, so if the red doesn't tickle your fancy there are other options like white or black to choose from as well.

Free Laptop Computers In Schools

Free Laptop Computers In Schools
By admin On May 9, 2009 Under free notebooks

Laptop computers for free is real. Only you need to find genuine offers. That’s what we are helping with.

Have you noticed that free laptop computers are beginning to dictate what happens in the classroom? Additionally, mobile technology is changing where learning takes place. This is especially true as free laptops computers are entering the educational arena in ever increasing numbers.

Professors actively engaged in education via technology see laptops computers as a way to give real life experiences to otherwise insipid theories. For instance, physics students can witness the breakdown of radioactive materials, math students can apply their knowledge of logic to projects that use spreadsheets, and English majors can evaluate peers’ poetry and prose. With free laptop computers in the classroom, access to additional information and knowledge is readily available.

This has inspired many donors to start giving free laptop computers to students. Some don’t even set any condition such as grades ro course programs. Free notebooks computers are just given to all students in a certain class of the school.

What if you don’t get a laptop for free from your school: There are other ways to get free laptop computers whether you are a student or not. Those are the ones we will cover here the most. As for free laptops in school, not all educators are quick to jump on the notebook bandwagon. They are waiting to see if laptop use is truly changing learning for the better. That’s why schools such as Framingham State College in Boston and the Myron B. Thompson Academy in Honolulu are being scrutinized. Both schools have elected to use laptop computers as a major resource in their curriculum. laptop computers for free is real. Only you need to find genuine offers. That’s what we are helping. Hystory of laptop

The Epson HX-20 History laptop As the personal computer became feasible in the early 1970s, the idea of a portable personal computer followed. A "personal, portable information manipulator" was imagined by Alan Kay at Xerox PARC in 1968[2] and described in his 1972 paper as the "Dynabook".[3]
The IBM SCAMP project (Special Computer APL Machine Portable), was demonstrated in 1973. This prototype was based on the PALM processor (Put All Logic In Microcode).
The IBM 5100, the first commercially available portable computer, appeared in September 1975, and was based on the SCAMP prototype.[4]
As 8-bit CPU machines became widely accepted, the number of portables increased rapidly. The Osborne 1, released in 1981, used the Zilog Z80 and weighed 23.5 pounds (10.7 kg). It had no battery, a 5" CRT screen and dual 5¼" single-density floppy drives. In the same year the first laptop-sized portable computer, the Epson HX-20, was announced.[5] The Epson had a LCD screen, a rechargeable battery and a calculator-size printer in a 1.6 kg (3.5 lb) chassis. Both Tandy/RadioShack and HP also produced portable computers of varying designs during this period.[6][7]History laptop
The first laptop using the flip form factor appeared in 1982. The $8150 GRiD Compass 1100 was used at NASA and by the military among others. The Gavilan SC, released in 1983, was the first notebook marketed using the term "laptop".[8] From 1983 onwards, several new input techniques were developed and included in laptops, including the touchpad (Gavilan SC, 1983), the pointing stick (IBM ThinkPad 700, 1992) and handwriting recognition (Linus Write-Top,[9] 1987). Some CPUs were designed specifically for low power use including laptops (Intel i386SL, 1990), and were supported by dynamic power management features (Intel SpeedStep and AMD PowerNow!) in some designs. Displays reached VGA resolution by 1988 (Compaq SLT/286) and 256-color screens by 1993 (PowerBook 165c), progressing quickly to millions of colors and high resolutions. High-capacity hard drives and optical storage (CD-ROM followed CD-R and CD-RW and eventually by DVD-ROM and the writable varieties) became available in laptops soon after their introduction to the desktops.History laptop

NEW LAPTOP

new Laptop ia A laptop is a personal computer designed for mobile use small enough to sit on one's lap.[1] It is important to distinguish a laptop from a desktop, notebook, nettop, and netbook. A laptop integrates most of the typical components of a desktop computer, including a display, a keyboard, a pointing device (a touchpad, also known as a trackpad, and/or a pointing stick), speakers, and often including a battery, into a single small and light unit. The rechargeable battery (if present) is charged from an AC adapter and typically stores enough energy to run the laptop for two to three hours in its initial state, depending on the configuration and power management of the computer.
Laptops are usually shaped like a large notebook with thicknesses between 0.7–1.5 inches (18–38 mm) and dimensions ranging from 10x8 inches (27x22cm, 13" display) to 15x11 inches (39x28cm, 17" display) and up. Modern laptops weigh 3 to 12 pounds (1.4 to 5.4 kg); older laptops were usually heavier. Most laptops are designed in the flip form factor to protect the screen and the keyboard when closed. Modern tablet laptops have a complex joint between the keyboard housing and the display, permitting the display panel to twist and then lay flat on the keyboard housing. They usually have a touchscreen display and some include handwriting recognition or graphics drawing capability.new Laptop now
Laptops were originally considered to be "a small niche market" and were thought suitable mostly for "specialized field applications" such as "the military, the Internal Revenue Service, accountants and sales representatives". But today, there are already more laptops than desktops in businesses, and laptops are becoming obligatory for student use and more popular for general use. In 2008 more laptops than desktops were sold in the US and it has been predicted that the same milestone will be reached in the worldwide market as soon as late 2009.new Laptop
