Tawkon Debuts Limited Edition Of Cellphone Radiation App For Nexus S
Tawkon Debuts Limited Edition Of Cellphone Radiation App For Nexus S
Added Jan 6, 2010, Under: apps , gadgets , google , Phones
When you buy a new smartphone, is the first thing you look at what the specific absorption rate (SAR) is of the device you’re interesting in spending cash on? Me neither, but according to some health organizations, we should be paying attention to mobile phone radiation.
review and searching new produc from lexus hp 2011
Rather than try and convince people to stop using their smartphones for phone calls (ain’t gonna happen), Israeli startup tawkon has developed applications that let people minimize exposure to cellular radiation while they continue using their mobile phones.
Essentially, tawkon monitors and analyzes your mobile phone’s radiation using proprietary technology, enabling you to “talk on” as usual and receive prompts to avoid radiation when you really need to. According to the company, radiation levels emitted from mobile phones can fluctuate significantly during a call, due to a variety of dynamic factors.
Tawkon alerts users when those radiation levels cross a predefined threshold, and offers suggestions to reduce exposure, based on real-time environment and usage factors.
Apple has opted to reject the somewhat controversial application – for whatever reason – and hasn’t communicated with the startup in many months. The company does have applications for BlackBerry devices, and recently launched an Android-compatible version.
Now, the company is releasing a “limited edition beta” version specifically designed for Google’s Nexus S
Its timing is impeccable – starting next month, the City of San Francisco’s cell phone right-to-know ordinance (PDF) goes into effect, requiring retailers to disclose Specific Absorption Rate values for cell phones

new laptop and notebook today january 2011
Last week at CES we saw a lot of tablets and I met with a lot of tablet makers. I was fascinated by the differing philosophies among these companies. While some preferred to wait and release their tablets when Google finally released Honeycomb, others were looking to get to market faster and were just fine with sending tablets bearing Android 2.2 or even 2.1 into the world. One such company representing the second stance was EFUN, makers of the Nextbook tablets.
The Nextbook Next3, which recently arrived in our offices, resembles a lot of the Android tablets we’ve seen in the past 18 months or so since this recent slate craze began. What sets it apart is its size — 8.4-inches instead of the more popular 7 or 10-ish — but otherwise the plastic chassis and the resistive screen are all too familiar. At $299 it’s certainly less expensive than the iPads and Galaxy Tabs of the world (unsubsidized, anyway), but is it worth a look?
On the design front the Next3 is somewhat non-descript. The glossy black chassis is not plain, but instead has flecks of metallic blue that sparkle a bit in the light. It’s not something a Twilight vampire would envy, just a bit of flair to an otherwise plain design. The thing I noticed most was the lack of buttons. There are only two on the right side — up and down — and those are for turning pages in the eReader apps or paging through files or media, such as in the photo viewer. Unlike most Android devices, there’s no Home, Back, Menu or Search buttons. Instead, Home, Back and Menu are found on screen (sometimes accompanied by Search) in most apps, but they’re not always visible.
I realize that this is a trend several hardware manufacturers are going toward, and I’d like to take this moment to ask them to stop. Having physical buttons may offend some aesthetically, but they’re very useful. Especially in instances where an app stops working or the display stops responding to taps. As happened several times when using the Next3. Of course, there is always the chance that the entire system is frozen and it needs a hard reset. However, the Back or Home button would have sufficed for most of the problems I encountered.
Other than lack of buttons, the main cause of frustration was the Next3′s screen. The 8.4-inch display is resistive, not capacitive touch enabled. This doesn’t automatically indicate a terrible screen, and this model is definitely easier to use than the Augen Gentouch78. Still, the display wasn’t very responsive to touch from the pad of our fingers. Using a fingernail or the included stylus was better, but even then we had to press far too hard at times to get the tablet to register the input. Also, no matter how many times I calibrated it, I couldn’t get the touch sensitivity to be as accurate as I needed to to tap small icons or lines of text.
The 800 x 600 resolution on the display may be too low for some, but I found it plenty big enough for surfing the web and reading eBooks. Also, unlike many of the 7-inch tablets we’ve seen recently, the Next3 has a 4:3 aspect ratio. This makes sense for a larger tablet, and offers more vertical pixels in landscape mode. The screen’s vertical viewing angles aren’t very wide, but enough to share the screen with a friend. Horizontal angles are better, which means you can prop it up on a nearby table and watch video with little problem.
Performance-wise, the Next3 had few problems. The dual-core ARM processor isn’t blazingly fast, but it looks like the manufacturer didn’t add anything on the software side to slow the system down. When taps registered, the system responded right away. When typing on the on-screen keyboard, I didn’t have to wait for the system to catch up with me. The included standard-def video played without hitching, and SD YouTube videos were similarly smooth when the connection was good. The Wi-Fi on board isn’t very strong, but when close to the router websites downloaded in good time.
Given this, we were surprised that we couldn’t get Angry Birds to work correctly. It never did load fully, just showed a blank or static screen and sometimes played the theme music. This is when a Home button would have been useful. To get out of this never-ending loop, I had to shut down the tablet completely.
If you’ve been following tablet news and developments at all it will come as no surprise that the Next3 doesn’t come with the official Google Market on board, nor some other core Google apps just as Gmail and Maps. (There is an email app, though.) Instead, EFUN included the AndAppStore, a third-party market that acts just like the Google Market. Users can browse for apps within categories, download, and install right from the AndAppStore app, just as with the Google Market. The selection is not as vast, though. There look to be under a thousand apps instead of the over 10,000 available to certified Google devices.
The Next3 comes with the standard Android apps pre-loaded, plus the Borders app (with 25 free eBooks already on the tablet). Most consumers will get their first look at the Nextbook Next3 in a Borders store, as that’s one of the retail outlets set to carry it.
If you see the Next3 in the store, should you buy it? It’s $200 less than the least expensive iPad, after all. Still, $299 is a lot to pay for a basic tablet. And while the Next3 certainly doesn’t suffer from all the same drawbacks as other lower-tier tablets we’ve seen, it also doesn’t offer anything beyond stock Android. Plus, for some, the resistive touchscreen is a dealbreaker.
It may take some patience, but I recommend waiting for a newer crop of tablets to come to market before making the decision to spend your money on this one.http://blog.laptopmag.com

FaceTime. Phone calls like you've never seen before.
People have been dreaming about video calling for decades. iPhone 4 makes it a reality. With the tap of a button, you can wave hello to your kids, share a smile from across the globe, or watch your best friend laugh at your stories — iPhone 4 to iPhone 4 or to the new iPod touch over Wi-Fi. No other phone makes staying in touch this much fun.
One-tap simple.
FaceTime works right out of the box — no need to set up a special account or screen name. And using it is as easy as it gets. Let’s say you want to start a video call with your best friend. Just find her entry in your Contacts and tap the FaceTime button. Or maybe you’re already talking on a voice call with her, iPhone 4 to iPhone 4, and you want to switch to video. Just tap the FaceTime button on the screen. Either way, an invitation pops up on her screen asking if she wants to join you. When she accepts, the video call begins. It’s all perfectly seamless. And it works in both portrait and landscape modes. Two cameras made for video calling.
iPhone 4 has two built-in cameras, one on the front above the display and one on the back next to the LED flash. The front camera has been tuned for FaceTime. It has just the right field of view and focal length to focus on your face at arm’s length. So it always presents you in the best possible light.Share what you see with the back camera.
Imagine your sister is away at school and can’t make it to your son’s birthday. So you’re cheering her up with a FaceTime call. As the cupcakes come out, your son’s eyes light up, and you just have to share it. Tap a button, and before you can say, “Make a wish,” iPhone 4 switches to the back camera, and to the birthday boy's big moment. Another tap switches back to the front camera and to you. Simple, fast, and fun. article from ww.apple.com

Film From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
A film, also called a movie or motion picture, is a story conveyed with moving images. It is produced by recording photographic images with cameras, or by creating images using animation techniques or visual effects. The process of filmmaking has developed into an art form and industry.
Films are cultural artifacts created by specific cultures, which reflect those cultures, and, in turn, affect them. Film is considered to be an important art form, a source of popular entertainment and a powerful method for educating — or indoctrinating — citizens. The visual elements of cinema give motion pictures a universal power of communication. Some films have become popular worldwide attractions by using dubbing or subtitles that translate the dialogue into the language of the viewer.
Films are made up of a series of individual images called frames. When these images are shown rapidly in succession, a viewer has the illusion that motion is occurring. The viewer cannot see the flickering between frames due to an effect known as persistence of vision, whereby the eye retains a visual image for a fraction of a second after the source has been removed. Viewers perceive motion due to a psychological effect called beta movement.
The origin of the name "film" comes from the fact that photographic film (also called film stock) has historically been the primary medium for recording and displaying motion pictures. Many other terms exist for an individual motion picture, including picture, picture show, moving picture, photo-play and flick. A common name for film in the United States is movie, while in Europe the term cinema or film is preferred. Additional terms for the field in general include the big screen, the silver screen, the cinema and the movies.

SAN FRANCISCO: Apple, trying to expand beyond the Macintosh, iPod and iPhone, introduced a tablet computer with a touch screen, Web browser and e-mail functions.
The iPad can display full Web pages and has a touch-screen keyboard that’s almost full size, chief executive officer Steve Jobs said late on Wednesday night at a company event in San Francisco. The iPad supports Wi-Fi communications and runs the more than 140,000 applications already available for the iPhone and iPod Touch.
The iPad is “so much more intimate than a laptop, so much more capable than a smartphone,” Jobs said. The device, which has a 9.7-inch screen, is half an inch thick and weighs 0.7 kg, he said.
Jobs, 54, has spent the past decade transforming the maker of the Mac personal computer into a consumer-electronics juggernaut. The iPad builds on the digital media and mobile technology behind Apple’s market-leading iPod players and the iPhone, and will challenge dedicated e-book readers from Amazon.com Inc and Sony Corp.
Apple, based in Cupertino, California, fell $2.76 to $203.18 at 1:40 pm New York time in Nasdaq Stock Market trading. The shares, which more than doubled last year, rose to a record $215.04 earlier this month on anticipation of the new gadget.
Apple investors typically run up the stock ahead of product events and then sell on the news, said Gene Munster, an analyst at Piper Jaffray & Co in Minneapolis.
Apple Chip
The device, made of aluminum and glass, can display maps from Google Inc., and has calendar and address book functions. It also lets users display thumbnail views of photos. The iPad has a 1-gigahertz Apple chip and battery life of 10 hours, Jobs said.
“My question is how big of a market this is, and it’s probably reasonably big,” said Michael Yoshikami, an analyst at Walnut Creek, California-based YCMNet Advisors. “I’m still getting my hands around how many people are going to want something of this size.”

iPhone 4 major leap on iPhone 3GS
'iPhone 4 major leap on iPhone 3GS'
Bloomberg, Jun 24, 2010, 11.46am IST
NEW YORK: Wall Street Journal columnist Walt Mossberg called the iPhone a 'major leap' over 'its already-excellent predecessor'.
Apple Inc's iPhone 4 will "dazzle" consumers with its thinner redesign, "radically" sharper screen, higher-resolution front-facing camera and updated operating system, reviewers said.
The iPhone 4 feels "denser and tighter" than the 3GS, Wall Street Journal technology columnist Walt Mossberg wrote in a review today. Sound is "much better on both ends" of a call, according to David Pogue in the New York Times.
Mossberg called the phone a "major leap" over "its already excellent predecessor." Apple's fourth-generation phone goes on sale tomorrow at the same cost as the iPhone 3GS. The 16GB model sells for $199 and the 32GB model for $299, each with a two-year contract from AT&T Inc.
Apple, based in Cupertino, California, has received more than 600,000 preorders for the phone. Dallas-based AT&T, the exclusive US carrier for the iPhone, said June 15 that it has booked 10 times as many preorders for the new model as it did for the 3GS last year.
USA Today technology columnist Edward C Baig said the smartphone is "the one to beat, even as it faces fierce competition from phones based on Google's Android platform." Mossberg praised the video calling and long-lasting battery, writing that "even in heavy use, the iPhone 4's battery never reached the red zone on a single day of my tests."
Fewer dropped calls
Pogue wrote "the new phone is also better at choosing the best channel for connecting with the cell tower," leading to fewer dropped calls in New York and San Francisco.
Baig, Mossberg and Pogue all presented the phone's drawbacks. The biggest is "Apple needs a second network," Mossberg said.
Apple also has allowed only certain applications to "fully multitask" to avoid "a disastrous drain on battery life," Mossberg wrote. There are more than 225,000 applications that run on the iPhone, according to an Apple statement.
"The technically inclined may find greater flexibility and choice among its Android rivals," Pogue wrote. Baig added that "critics are left with reasons to whine."
The iPhone 4 "is still, overall, the best in its class," Mossberg wrote.
Apple fell $2.88 to $270.97 at 4:30 p.m. time in Nasdaq Stock Market trading. The shares have climbed 29 per cent this year and have more than doubled in the past year.

The 2011 Consumer Electronics Show – What You Need To Know and What You’ve Already Missed By Jason on January 5, 2011
The Consumer Electronics Show starts tomorrow, January 6th, and goes through January 9th. It’s the largest consumer technology tradeshow in the world. In addition to various vendors announcing their latest devices that will be talked about for the rest of the year, there are also awards programs, concerts, competitions, and celebrities. For those of us that are all about the gadgets, this is the place to be. Unfortunately, the Show is not open to the public. We’re dependent on members of the press and the companies themselves to broadcast the news, announcements, and reveals outside of the Las Vegas. Here you will find where to keep up with the latest coming from CES and what has already been revealed before it even officially begins.
I, your editor here at 404 Tech Support, qualify as a member of the press…
For editorial press and bloggers, you must provide… “A link to a blog entry posted within the past three months with your by-line* (Must be an established blog that reflects current, tech industry-related news, with new posts created on a weekly basis or greater frequency and get more than 500 unique visits a month)… Online media must write for a website with more than 1,000 unique visits a month and a reporting staff that posts original tech industry-related news at least weekly.”
and I would have loved to attend. I was actually planning on attending since last year’s CES but the planning just didn’t work out this year. Perhaps next year will be my year but for now, here are some sources we can check to read up on the cool new tech with a person attending, not just rehashing the news that has leaked out.
Updates
The CES website is at www.cesweb.org and has information like the show floor, schedule, events, and awards.

this is 2 article about Google Cr-48 Notebook Hacked to Mac OS X, Windows 7, and iPhone Alarm Not Working For 2011
Google Cr-48 Notebook Hacked to Mac OS X, Windows 7
We said that Google’s Cr-48 Chrome OS netbook looked a lot like a MacBook and now you can give it the same operating system too. Following on the heels of hackers who installed Ubuntu onto the system, an intrepid hardware hacker named Damis648 has been able to install both Mac OS X and Windows 7 onto the device.
Damis648 hasn’t posted instructions yet, but the install process sounds a bit complicated as it involves flashing the BIOS. Check out the fruits of his labor in the videos below.
iPhone Alarm Not Working For 2011
A lot of people have been reporting that the iPhone alarm has not been working during 2011. Many of those people who depend on the alarm slept in as a result.
A change over to standard time back on November caused similar problems, with the alarm not activating.
According to reports, the iPhone alarm will start working normally again by the 3rd of January. If you do not want to wait until that point there is a fix available;
1.Tap clock
2.Tap Edit
3.Tap your alarm
4.Tap repeat
5.Set an interval repeat

So how's the Apple iPhone alarm issue fixed? Tap the clock first and then tap the + symbol. Set your alarm for the desired time, and tap "Repeat." Set the repeat interval and tap "Save." That's all there is to it!
The website 9 to 5 Mac reports that they ran some of their own tests on the Apple iPhone alarm not working and discovered it resolves itself on Monday, January 3, 2011. That's good news because many iPhone owners will be on time for work, and won't get fired over an issue from Steve Jobs and Apple!
