E-book readers (or digital readers as they are also called) are all the rage today. It seems that every time we turn around another major player is releasing, or planning on releasing a new electronic reading device. At the present time Amazon's Kindle reader is the top choice among consumers.
Today, the average price of the e-book readers on the market is about $300. The average price had been closer to $400 until recently when Amazon dropped the Kindle price down some.
Many consumers, unfamiliar with e-book readers, refuse to spend that much money on a device that many have never even held before, let alone use. It is expected however, that sometime in 2010, the prices may drop again due to many more electronics companies promising to release new digital readers before year's end.

Research in Motion's (RIM) PlayBook promises so much. Sexiness, speed, chic. As witnessed during a recent media preview, the PlayBook certainly entices, at least hardware-wise. Hardware - Solid effort, Impressive Specs
Powered by a dual-core 1Ghz processor with a generous 1GB RAM, the PlayBook boasts symmetrical multi-processing, something not seen in other tablets thus far. The highly-responsive 7" multi-touch capacitative display supports 1024 x 600 screen resolution. Colours are bright and text crisp. Connectivity-wise, the PlayBook comes with WIFI (a/b/g/n) and Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR with LTE/WIMAX/HSPA options over various models. The PlayBook offers 'best-in-class' media and RIM makes no secret about this - dual cameras supporting still and video capture - 5MP HD at the rear and class-leading 3MP HD front-facing. Nice. May be slightly optimistic with its multitasking prowess. Design & Aesthetics - Sexy Chic
At first glance, the PlayBook looks and feels smaller than expected. Visually it looks smaller than a Samsung Galaxy Tab and HTC Flyer. Overall, the build quality is excellent.
Performance - A Whole Lotta "Hmmmm..."Rim Blackberry Apps
While the PlayBook excels in every possible way in terms of hardware, the software side of things and how that translates to overall real world experience leaves much to be desired. QNX, the OS that powers the PlayBook is a robust, UNIX-like realtime operating system for embedded systems. Its true multitasking ability is pretty amazing to behold. Performance is responsive and snappy. Without a hardware button for 'Home' or 'Back' which we're accustomed to, users merely need to swipe the bezel to exit an application, or side swipe to bring up a dashboard of running applications. Pretty nifty though a slight learning curve for the unfamiliar. The cameras work well and captures are pretty good. Video playback is impressive, too. The WebKit-powered browser works well.
While RIM is quick to admit that the PlayBook software is still 'pre-release', some glaring exclusions and myriad errors left some frustrated. I encountered numerous errors while attempting to play media - both videos and audio on one of the test devices. The lack of a dedicated email, calendaring and contacts clients is a surprising exclusion. The only way to manage this is via BlackBerry Bridge - the app suite that allows your Bluetooth-tethered BlackBerry device to manage your Messages, Calendar, and BBM. No luck if you're NOT a BlackBerry phone user. Hmmmm.Rim Blackberry Apps

The RIM BlackBerry Curve 3G 9330 offered by Verizon is an affordable gorgeous device for email, text messaging, and applications. Also on the front of the Curve 3G is a precise optical trackpad for navigating the display. On the right side, you'll find a camera button, and two buttons for volume. The resolution of the 2.4" display screen of the Curve 3G is only 320x240. When you consider that the current generation of smart-phones carries display resolutions in the 480x360 range, the resolution of the Curve 3G may seem a bit low. Pictures look OK when comparing the Curve 3G display to those higher resolution smart phones, which, admittedly, do cost around $150. Text on the Curve 3G may appear a bit fuzzy.
One drawback for the Curve 3G is that it now comes with only the BlackBerry OS 5 instead of the OS 6. Verizon has announced that the OS 6 will be available "soon" for the Curve 3G. The model previous to the Curve 3G, the Curve 8530, had a 528-MHz processor and 256 MB of RAM; the Curve 3G has a much faster 624-MHz processor and 512 MB of RAM, all of which means better performance for the Curve 3G. You switch between apps appreciably faster, typing messages is easier and quicker, and navigation is very responsive. One negative, though, is the Web browser on the Curve 3G -- it feels a bit sluggish.
Import of settings, phone numbers, and email contacts from Gmail is no problem at all. You can set up and use your BlackBerry email account plus ten other Web email accounts on the Curve 3G. Text messaging is supported for BlackBerry Messenger, AIM, Windows Live, Google Talk, and Yahoo.

When you consider that the current generation of smart-phones carries display resolutions in the 480x360 range, the resolution of the Curve 3G may seem a bit low. Pictures look OK when comparing the Curve 3G display to those higher resolution smart phones, which, admittedly, do cost around $150. Text on the Curve 3G may appear a bit fuzzy.
One drawback for the Curve 3G is that it now comes with only the BlackBerry OS 5 instead of the OS 6. Verizon has announced that the OS 6 will be available "soon" for the Curve 3G. The model previous to the Curve 3G, the Curve 8530, had a 528-MHz processor and 256 MB of RAM; the Curve 3G has a much faster 624-MHz processor and 512 MB of RAM, all of which means better performance for the Curve 3G. You switch between apps appreciably faster, typing messages is easier and quicker, and navigation is very responsive. One negative, though, is the Web browser on the Curve 3G -- it feels a bit sluggish.
Import of settings, phone numbers, and email contacts from Gmail is no problem at all. You can set up and use your BlackBerry email account plus ten other Web email accounts on the Curve 3G. Text messaging is supported for BlackBerry Messenger, AIM, Windows Live, Google Talk, and Yahoo.

Unlike open platforms such as the Internet, smartphones are separated by a range of operating systems, handsets and carrier support.
Market share Trends
The mobile operating systems to target are Apple's iPhone OS 3.0, RIM's Blackberry 4.6+ and Google's Android. These are the largest growing mobile OS platforms; others such as Symbian and Windows Mobile are experiencing slower growth in market share and also suffer from platform "fragmentation", further lowering their effective market share. Of all the competing operating systems, only the iPhone/iPod Touch allows for near universal application development.
The Risk of Fragmentation
There is significant platform fragmentation with non Apple devices, notably the Blackberry OS, with a large roster of legacy devices such as the blackberry 8100, 8700 and 8800 families. Each manufacturer can build a totally unique Android phone running on a variety of OS versions, ranging from Android 1.5, 1.6, 2.0, 2.0.1,and 2.1.
The iPhone line can be drawn into three main groupings; the original iPhone, the iPod Touch and the iPhone 3GS. The iPod Touch does not have a camera, so any app that needs a camera will not function. The iphone 3GS is the newest model and is becoming the baseline model for app developers, especially those utilizing live video and location based services.
When developing native apps for the Blackberry, the largest pool of compatible devices are the Blackberry Curve 8300, 8900 and the 8500 series, followed by the Bold 9000, Bold 9700 and the Blackberry Tour.

BlackBerry Research In Motion (RIM) come back release new product 9900 and 9930
This morning, Research In Motion (RIM) officially announced its latest smartphone, the BlackBerry Bold 9900/9930, at its annual BlackBerry World Conference in Orlando.

I was lucky enough to get some hands-on time with the new Bold this morning, and though it's difficult to get a truly accurate feel for a smartphone that's tethered to a table and while hundreds of feisty journalists peer over your shoulder, I can say with little hesitation that the Bold 9900 is one very impressive BlackBerry. Here's why.
BlackBerry Bold 9900 First Impressions
The BlackBerry Bold 9900 is a successor to RIM's original Bold handheld, the BlackBerry 9000. And it looks the part; on first glance, the Bold 9900 looks very much like the Bold 9000. And in many ways the exterior of the device is similar: the keyboard design, shape and size are practically identical to the 9000, and the shiny silver bezel that surrounds the handheld also looks just like the old Bold's bezel.
But the similarities end there.
The Bold 9900 is significantly slimmer and a bit lighter than the 9000. In fact, the Bold 9900 is RIM's thinnest BlackBerry ever. And it feels great in the hand. The Bold 9900 form factor is probably my favorite of any BlackBerry smartphone to date.
And the 9900 keyboard is to die for; RIM even called it the best keyboard on any BlackBerry smartphone. And I tend to agree. Though the keyboard looks almost identical to the original Bold 9000 keypad, it's actually slightly larger, because it stretches almost all the way to the sides of the device, while the Bold 9000's bezel is thicker and takes up keyboard space.
blackBerry Bold 9930I spent a few minutes typing on the Bold 9900, and it was truly a pleasure, especially since I used to employ a Bold 9000, and I really miss that keyboard.
On the inside, the Bold is packing an impressive 1.2GHz processor, which helps the software experience feel fast and smooth, with very little lag--at least in the 20 minutes or so I spent with the device. It also has 768MB of RAM, with 8GB of internal storage for media and other data, the most RAM and built-in storage of any current BlackBerry. And the Bold 9900 also supports microSD memory cards up to 32GB. All of these things make the Bold 9900 feel much more "modern" than RIM's past few handhelds.

MUMBAI: Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), India's largest software services exporter, posted a 23-percent rise in quarterly net profit, beating street forecasts, on rising demand for outsourcing services from western clients.
TCS, a unit of the salt-to-steel conglermerate Tata Group, said that fiscal fourth-quarter net profit rose to 24.02 billion rupees ($542 million).
This compares with a Reuters poll forecast for net profit of 23.51 billion rupees for TCS, whose major clients include Citigroup, General Electric, British Airways and Sony Corp.
Shares in TCS, valued at about $54 billion, have risen more than 4.6 percent this year, outpacing a 9-percent fall in the sector index and a near 5 percent drop in the broader market.

NEW DELHI: In an e-mail sent to all its employees Thursday morning, Microsoft Chief Executive Steve Ballmer has announced that the company will be increasing the pay packages of all its employees and make changes in its review system.
Here's is a copy of the e-mail sent by Ballmer to Microsoft employees as published by The Seattle Times.
"There are many things that are true about Microsoft. We have big goals, big dreams and big aspirations for the future. We have great products and services. We have great people. We are competitive both with our products and in the way we attract and retain talent. For me, the most important factor is competition for talent, because I know our success comes from the people who work here.
Attracting and retaining great talent has at least three critical components: enabling and supporting people doing exciting and innovative work, creating a great environment where people can grow and be recognized, and providing the right overall compensation.
In the same way we continuously improve our products and services, we must also improve the ways we support and reward our talented people. In line with that, today we're announcing changes that will benefit our employees by sharpening the clarity of our performance review process and increasing compensation. These changes represent the most significant investment in overall compensation we have ever made.
Reviews. We are retiring our current system (commitment rating and contribution ranking) and moving to a single performance rating with clear rewards.
We are making this change so all employees see a clear, simple, and predictable link between their performance, their rating, and their compensation. Each rating at each level will now have set compensation tied to the rating.
These ratings will be based on the results you accomplished during the review period (assessed against your commitments), how you accomplished them, and your proven capability. Ratings will be a simple 1-5 system with relative performance being assessed across common peer groups.
Compensation. We are increasing our investment in compensation across the board.
The following changes will take place at review this September:
-For all employees, we will have merit increase opportunities aligned with local market dynamics and performance rating.
-We will make important increases in compensation for specific populations where the market has moved the most - early and mid-level R&D, mid-level company-wide and certain geographies.
-For all employees, we will shift a portion of stock award targets into base salary, providing more cash up front and obvious incremental employee value. Senior leaders will continue to have a large portion of their overall compensation in stock to ensure their compensation is heavily tied to the financial performance of the company.
-We are increasing funding for our bonus and stock awards so we can deliver 100% or more of target bonus and stock awards to 80% of our eligible employees. This is up from about 50% in prior years. The additional funding ensures our approach continues to support higher payouts to top performers.

A woman who is already accused of stalking one tech CEO apparently walked into Google's offices last month and left a letter and book for company co-founders Sergey Brin and Larry Page.
Mountain View police spokeswoman Liz Wylie confirmed Thursday that Vera Svechina, a 37-year-old San Francisco resident, followed a visually impaired Google worker through a door into a secured, employee-only area on March 18.
Svechina then made her way to an empty desk outside of one of the co-founder's offices, and left a letter and book written in Russian, Wylie said.
Business Insider described Svechina as an "amateur filmmaker and former stripper from Russia." Zynga founder Mark Pincus filed for a restraining order against her in February, according to Business Insider, after she allegedly threatened his wife and children, and visited his home.
Wylie did not know the title of the book left by Svechina.
"There was "nothing threatening" about the letter, but it was "angry in parts," she said
After an employee found the book and letter, Google security reviewed its surveillance tapes and found images of Svechina entering the building. Google notified Mountain View police of the incident, Wylie said, but none of Svechina's actions rose to the level of criminal activity and no charges were filed against her.
"It's just reporting it, making sure we're aware of it," Wylie said.

the past. She was detained last May after she came to police headquarters and asked to file a complaint against Google.

The #1 thing iPad users are searching for these days is “iPad 2 jailbreak.” It’s also the #5 most searched-for term, when you rephrase it “jailbreak iPad 2.” Obviously, opening up iOS to get away from Apple’s app store and policies is at the top of many iPad users’ minds.
To determine this, we looked at the most searched-for terms by iPad users across the Chitika ad network over the past week. They also seem to be very interested in the upcoming British royal wedding: the #2 query was “Kate Middleton” (soon to be Princess of Wales), and #3 was “royal wedding.”

LG Optimus Pad would pair 3D video capture with a glasses-free 3D display like the one on the Nintendo 3DS and LG's own forthcoming Optimus 3D handset. Could the LG Optimus Pad have a 3D display? That's what the rumours say, although they also predict a £250 price tag. One or the other is possible, but not both. 3D or no 3D there's a dual-core Tegra 2 and an 8.9" display. On-board memory is provided by 1GB of RAM, while our test unit came with 32GB internal flash storage.
LG Optimus Pad is an 8.9-inch tablet which means it sits between the 7-inch tablets like the BlackBerry Playbook and the 9.7-inch iPad 2. The idea is that this size gives the best of both worlds, balancing a nice, portable size with a screen big enough to watch movies on.

Today I want to show you an easy way to solve a common problem that causes many sites to fail to rank as well as they should.
The problem is that web developers are unaware of the principle of First Link Priority. The bad news is that many sites, especially those with a large number of pages, don’t get the rankings they should because they don’t handle first link priority properly.
The good news is that once you’re aware of the problem, it’s very easy to fix and avoid in the future.
First Link Prioritisation occurs when Google looks at a webpage and analyses its outbound links.
The First Link Priority rule states that when a page links more than once to the same target page, Google will completely ignore all links after the first, often with negative SEO consequences.
Take a look at this example diagram below.
In our example, Page A links to Page B twice. The first link is a graphical link, (in this case a banner image at the top of the page), whilst the second link is in the navigation bar and is a keyword-rich link with optimised anchor text.
The second link is put there for SEO value, and is what we want Google to see, (the anchor text in the link infers meaning), however, Google will completely ignore it. Instead Google only sees the graphical link (which contains no anchor text). The keyword rich link is of no value
(And no, for the curious, putting an “Alt” tag on the image link won’t serve as a substitute to anchor text).
The result is that the target page gets the PageRank “juice” passed to it, but not anchor text relevance, which is a valuable source of optimisation, so rankings suffer.
Now, at this point, I should clarify that when Google evaluates the links pointing to a page, it will count links from any page in its index, including both links from other pages on your website (internal links) and links from pages around the Internet at large (external links).

Acer Aspire 1830T Timeline X: Our Deal of the Week

A lot of the netbooks that are in circulation right now are built with lower-end processors; sometimes one of the Intel Atoms. Although this type of CPU might be sufficient for some people in terms of performance, sometimes you just need a laptop with more muscle. Check out this week's deal-- the Acer Aspire 1830T Timeline X--which offers a lot more power for just a little more in price.
The Aspire 1830T Timeline X that we found on Amazon comes built with an Intel Core i5-470UM at 1.33 GHz, which is different than our review models' CPU, but still beats what's in most netbooks out there by far. It is currently selling for $649, which is $251 less than the original MSRP on our review model.
Other than that, there's more to the smallest notebook in the Timeline X line by Acer. At 11.6-inches and just over 3 lbs in weight, it runs on Windows 7 Home Premium and has 500GB of hard drive space and 4GB of RAM. In our battery tests, the netbook was also able to last 7 hours and 48 minutes while unplugged (timing will be a little bit different because of the CPU, though).
In our review of the 1830T we thought the glossy screen with high 1366 x 768 resolution should be great for browsing the web, checking email, editing photographs and even watching movies. We also talked well about the design of the expansion bay. It provides one-stop access to the essentials for expandibility: two RAM slots, hard drive, SDHC-card slot, WLAN, and optional WWAN card slots.

Dr. David Shin, head of the Center for Sexual Health & Fertility of Hackensack University Medical Center, United States, to share information about the 13 facts about sperm, which are as follows:
# Sperm is produced in the testes and it took 10 weeks to mature.
# Mature sperm can wait up to 2 weeks in the 'waiting room' which is called the epididymis before they debuted. The epididymis is a circular channel located at the very top and back of the testis. Its function is to channel sperm.
# Sperm only contributes 5 percent of the total volume of seminal fluid. The rest consists of a liquid medium which provides nutrients and protection of sperm so he could travel to the female reproductive tract.
# Male healthy produce 70-150 million sperm every day.
# Sperm can live up to 5 days in the womb. This explains why someone can get pregnant a few days after ovulation (release of egg cells).
# Sperm Y, which will produce a baby boy, swim faster than X sperm, which would produce a baby girl. Y chromosome is smaller and has less genetic material than X chromosome # Human Sperm size of 55 microns. In comparison, approximately the size of a human hair is 100 microns.
# Sperm comes from the Greek, meaning 'seed'.
# Sperm can only swim forward, not backward.
# Normal sperm has a head, bit the middle, and tail. Abnormal sperm could have two heads or two tails.

Want to dig deeper about the attachment to the former, this site held a poll before, which was the result enough to make them stunned. Apparently most of us still have not really separated from his ex, not just limited to those who dropped out of her ex. Even those who have for years to sever ties with her ex were sometimes still not really 'break', both of feeling and contacts via the Internet. Here are the results of their survey:
* 71 percent of respondents who already had a new pair said they were still too often thought of her ex. Meanwhile, those who are single, the figure rose to 81 percent.
* More than half of single respondent said, still thinking about her ex makes them difficult to get a new pair.
Not only those who are single who find this problem. Respondents who are married, was still obsessed with her ex.
* Nearly two-thirds of people who are married (60 percent) agree that they still haunt the minds of former and about 36 percent said the closeness of the relationship affects his marriage.
Men and women alike feel this.
* Approximately 74 percent of women and 64 percent of men feel thinking about her ex too often.
* 76 percent of women and 70 percent of men never find out the state of her ex on the internet.
* 50 percent of women and 40 percent of men said they never or often see the profile of Facebook and social media ex.
Although it wanted to release her ex from your mind, the respondents could not resist the temptation ease the ex-state glance through digital technology.
Facebook: 59 percent of respondents remain friends with her ex on Facebook, and around 48 percent (including 42 percent of couples who are married) said they too often see the profile of the former on Facebook and other social media.
Internet: Approximately 74 percent of respondents had seen at once find out about the former on the Internet.
Photo: About 86 percent of respondents admitted often see pictures of his ex and 14 percent of respondents who are married to admit often do this very often.
Contact: About 50 percent of respondents never call, instant messaging, e-mail, or chatting with the former when it should not be.
