Why Buy a New Laptop Computer

Why Buy a New Laptop Computer

Laptops are portable, they’re stylish, and let’s face it: the opposite sex will think you more sophisticated when you’re suavely tapping out your latest blog entry at the coffee shop. Okay, that’s probably not true, but they are fun to have for both work and play.
For work, traveling professionals will find that a laptop’s wi-fi can offer them the same conveniences as being in the office via virtual private networks. You can take anything you need with you, having remote accesses to your files at the office so long as you have an Internet connection. It’s all there with you, even if it annoys your significant other when you bring work home.
For play, it’s great for tuning out the latest episode of Drake and Josh that your daughter CAN’T MISS: Just pop in your favorite DVD or play some tunes while you edit your sister-in-law out of your vacation photos.
Finding the right laptop can be a daunting task given the sheer variety of model types. There are miniatures that weigh in at just over a two pounds, super-slim ultra portables that weigh closer to three, on up to heavyweights at more than eight pounds. Generally, when weight goes up, power and screen size do the same.
In this site, you'll find articles on buying laptop computers, news stories and comprehensive reviews on economy PCs that will help you make an informed decision on which laptop is right for you. At TopTenREVIEWS - We do the research so you don't have to™.
What to Look for in a Laptop Computer For checking emails, surfing the web, or typing up that short story, you can get away with less power, weight, and screen size in your laptop. Beware however, as some of these are small because of the absence of a CD-RW, DVD±R or other hardware. Also, due to having less hardware to power, battery life is significantly increased in these lightweight portables.
This is what TopTenREVIEWS used to evaluate laptop computers:
  • Size: The purpose of a laptop computer is to be portable without sacrificing power. If you need something with an optical drive (CD-RW, DVD±R, etc.), a little more power and screen size, but still need a light weight machine, consider an ultra portable laptop, but remember, the smaller the package the larger the price tag.
  • Battery Life: No one likes being tethered to a wall, that's the whole reason for getting the laptop. Look for a system that can hold a charge for several hours. There is nothing worse than looking for an outlet in the middle of a project.
  • Screen Size: Typically the larger the laptop's screen size the larger the whole system. Remember, if you need a screen that rivals your desktop at home prepare to build those biceps. However, there are ultra slim laptops with 19 inch screens, but they are mighty expensive and although your computer will be lighter, so will your wallet.
So whether you need a slim ultra portable, or a desktop replacement, we’ll help you find the right laptop for your needs.http://computers.toptenreviews.com/laptops/

Is There Such a Thing As a Free Laptop? By Julia Cook

Free laptops have become the calling cards of a broadband company desperate for you your business. Since the Carphone Warehouse started the idea in the early days of broadband (when AOL was convinced that no-one would move from dial-up) there have been many attempts to mass-market free laptop deals.
These days consumers are even more suspicious of them than they are of most 'free' offers. Clearly there's no such as a free laptop, just as the there's no such as a free lunch.
In the case of lunch the ulterior motive is usually a word in your ear. In the case of the laptops it's even more tangible - the cost is simply built into the monthly price.
But is that always true?
If it were the case then you'd be able to take the cost of the mobile broadband away from the overall cost and be left with the cost of the laptop. However, performing this calculation will sometimes bring surprising results.
In a recent Samsung R530 Review the reviewers found that - even taking away the price of the mobile broadband - it was still around £140 cheaper to get the laptop in the deal than to buy it on its own.
This is rare but just to show it's not an isolated incident, it's also true of a Compaq cq61 laptop deal.
That laptop is around £120 cheaper when it's in the deal.
Presumably, in these cases, the mobile broadband company had chosen to buy the laptops in bulk and dramatically slash the price in return for their customer's loyalty. In any case these examples show the importance of doing your sums when it comes to these free laptop deals.
This is true even within the same free laptop deal. There can be very different results depending on the type of mobile broadband bundled with the laptop.
For example, the samsung N130 netbook is a better deal with 3GB a month of mobile broadband allowance than than it is with 1GB (even though the 1GB deal is cheaper). Finally, the calculation is not infallible.
The big problem with is it that laptops can look like a great deal just because there aren't discounted at retailers. Since retailers tend to discount their top choices, or the laptops that they rate most highly, this can be misleading.
It's not just whether the free laptop is a good deal that consumers need to check, then, but the specifications of the laptop itself.
Julia Cook is a staff writer for a broadband comparison website that carries a Samsung R530 Review. The website also caters for a number of other broadband deals

  • Free Samsung R530 laptop with Windows 7.
  • Generous 5GB usage allowance.
  • Great value for money: this offer is £143.58 cheaper than buying the laptop and mobile broadband separately.
  • 14-day money back guarantee.
  • Includes free Huawei E1750 USB Modem.
  • 200 inclusive web text messages.
  • Get cut-price MS Office 2007 when you sign up and a free upgrade to Office 2010
  •
  • 3 mobile broadband review: Free Samsung R530 & Mobile

This free Samsung R530 laptop packs a punch and though - like all free laptop deals - it's not exactly free, it's actually significantly cheaper here than buying the laptop and mobile broadband separately.
    samsung r530 laptop review
Is the Samsung R530 any good?
The Samsung R530 has just been released as part of Samsung's 'good all-rounder' R-series.
It's slim and fairly light at just 2.56kg but with a 15.6" LED HD display this is no netbook. It's also pretty good looking, especially for a free laptop, with a dark red outer case and silver surrounding the keyboard.
You'll get 4GB of memory and a 500GB hard disc drive, again, more than we're used to in the free laptop market.
We're also intrigued by the laptop's SuperSilent Mode which slows down those noisy system fans that will be familiar to anyone that's tried to use a laptop in a library recently.
For when you want to be a little less silent the Samsung R530 packs a punch with 3 watt speakers and SRS 3D sound effects. Those extras, plus the laptop's tip top screen, make watching movies on the Samsung R530 a real pleasure.
There's a six-cell battery which should offer a good few hours of computing on the move and the Samsung R530 laptop also comes with the brand new Windows 7 operating system installed, just so that you can tell everyone it was your idea.
In all, the Samsung R530 is just slightly slicker than your average: good spec, a great size and a fresh look.
It's worth noting that 3 have a money back guarantee so you'll have 14 days (from the date of delivery) to change your mind.
You'll also be able to get Microsoft Office Home & Student 2007 with an upgrade in 2010 at a discounted price when you sign up (£59.99 - formally £110) which is nice extra if not exactly a red-hot offer.
MS 2007 is available for a few pounds more in many other places and Microsoft are offering the upgrade to everyone.
5GB of mobile broadband a month
Three mobile broadband has one of the most widely available and reliable services in the country. While it's always worth checking your local area for coverage on the Three site before you sign up you've got an excellent chance of finding a signal wherever you are.
You'll also get a free Huawei E1750 modem capable of speeds of up to 7.2 Mb/s (although actual speeds are likely to be much lower).
5GB of monthly usage will be enough to browse webpages for 50 hours or watch about an hour and a half of video.
Is the free Samsung R530 laptop a good deal?
At £35 for 24 months the free Samsung R530 laptop deal from Three will cost you £840 overall.
3 mobile broadband 5GB for 24 months will cost you £360. A new Samsung R530 laptop with 4GB of memory and 500 GB hard disc drive, just like the one in this offer, will set you back £623.58 from Amazon.co.uk. So, that's £983.58 overall.
That makes it an amazing £143.58 cheaper to take this offer than to buy the laptop and mobile broadband separately.
Of course, that assumes that you buy the laptop from Amazon. However, although we found the laptop cheaper at other less well-known retailers, it was still even cheaper to get it as part of the mobile broadband offer.
    All in all
All in all, this is one of the best free laptop deals we've seen in a long time: a free Samsung R530 laptop will be hard to beat and with 3's 14-day moneyback guarantee you really can try before you buy.

Inilah 10 Produk Elektronik Paling Banyak Dicari Selama Liburan

Inilah 10 Produk Elektronik Paling Banyak Dicari Selama Liburan
by Deliusno | November 23rd, 2009 | Categories: Business

1. Notebook or laptop PC
2. Portable mp3 player/digital media player
3. Flat panel TV
4. Video game console
5. Digital Camera
6. E-book reader/Amazon Kindle
7. Apple iPhone
8. Blu-ray player
9. Desktop PC
10. Smartphone

Dell delivers performance and flexibility with traditional and alternative desktop solutions

  • New Dell OptiPlex 980 desktop is the most powerful and the most energy efficient commercial desktop Dell has ever offered
  • New Dell FX100 zero client solution centralizes desktops with the performance and flexibility of a traditional PC
Today’s technology executives are increasingly tasked with not only meeting the ever-increasing demand for IT innovation but doing so with flexible environment solutions that support a range of traditional desktop PCs to virtual desktops and zero client devices. To help meet these demands, Dell is expanding its portfolio with two new solutions that can help organizations of all sizes increase their IT performance while helping to reduce energy and operational costs.

The company today introduced two new flexible computing options – the high-performance Dell ™ OptiPlex™ 980 commercial desktop and Dell FX100 zero client solution.
“Our customers, including large businesses, government agencies, healthcare organizations and small, medium businesses are looking to explore overall efficiencies in their IT infrastructure which means looking at systems that enable better productivity but result in greater power and cost savings,” said Brett McAnally, director, Dell Product Group. “With the OptiPlex 980 and FX100 we’re helping our customers strike a balance, offering flexible solutions and services that meet their complex demands.”

Dell OptiPlex 980 Desktop
Dell’s most powerful business desktop yet, the new OptiPlex 980, combines superb management and an environmentally responsible design. The new OptiPlex 980 can deliver up to 35 percent greater performance than previous generation OptiPlex systems³. The desktop can also lower energy costs with an energy-efficient design and environment-conscious features. New management features to enhance productivity include, virtual remote control capability with an optional Intel KVM (Keyboard, Video and Mouse) and simplified task management with Dell’s Update Catalog for Microsoft Systems Center. Other features making the OptiPlex 980 an ultimate commercial desktop computing experience include:
  • Desktop Performance – With Intel Core processor technology (Core i5 or Core i7) options and Solid State Drive options for increased performance and reliability.
  • Outstanding Energy Efficiency – With a 90 percent energy efficient power supply, the OptiPlex 980 can use less energy, helping to lower energy costs.
  • Designed with the Environment in Mind – meets important environmental standards including Energy Star 5.0 and EPEAT Gold, EPEAT’s highest rating. OptiPlex 980 also contains more post-consumer recycled content than previous generations.
  • A Quiet Workplace – the only commercial desktop with an optional Dell EcoKit that reduces system noise by up to 50 percent, helping to reduce workplace noise and increase productivity.
  • Advanced Security & Systems Management – management innovation including the latest generation of Intel vPro remote management support, which improves productivity with a robust set of enterprise security options that are the hallmark of the OptiPlex brand.
Offered in three different chassis options (minitower, desktop and small form factor), the OptiPlex 980 will be available worldwide in the coming weeks at a starting price of $807 USD. More information on the OptiPlex family can be found at www.dell.com/optiplex.

Dell FX100 Zero Client Solution
The Dell FX100 zero client solution, ideal for both the Virtual Remote Desktop and the Dedicated Remote Workstation solutions, does not require a processor, operating system or corporate image to manage. And as a key component of Dell’s Flexible Computing Solution, the FX100 is a high-performance communication solution that uses PC-over-IP technology (PCoIP) to help businesses centralize client desktops while still delivering the performance and flexibility of a traditional PC. The FX100, previously only available as an access device for the Dell Precision R5400 rack workstation, is now shipping with new firmware that adds support for VMware View 4.0 with PCoIP.

Virtual PC computing over a network can be both a performance and bandwidth challenge but the FX100 uses PCoIP as an established methodology for providing high performance desktops over both LAN and WAN, further enabling key benefits of virtual remote desktops such as:
  • Centralized client image management, storage, and processing in a secure location plus real-time secure access to corporate resources.
  • Flexible access to virtualized client desktops from nearly any device as well as from high-performance FX100 clients.
  • A true personal computing experience with support for all capabilities of a PC including optional support for host-based OpenGL graphics¹, USB, motion graphics and audio interactions at distances greater than traditional KVM limits.
  • A near-zero footprint on account of the FX100’s fan-less, driverless and stateless form factor, which can eliminate the need to equip even remote users with a complex client device.
Additional information on the FX100 Zero Client and all of Dell’s Flexible Computing solutions can be found here.
Dell Services offers a suite of highly customizable service and support solutions throughout the PC lifecycle including Dell ProSupport² and Dell ProManage. Dell also offers a robust set of services for organizations looking to migrate to Windows® 7. In addition, Dell offers flexible computing solutions, working with organizations to build a comprehensive solution for virtualization-infrastructure sizing, deployment and ongoing support.

HP's new laptop joins new breed of ultralights

HP's svelte new offering is rugged and priced to sell

April 08, 2008|By Ryan Kim, Chronicle Staff Writer
Hewlett-Packard is jumping into the emerging low-cost, ultra-portable notebook market with a laptop designed for students and frequent travelers.
HP introduced the 2133 Mini-Note PC, a 2.6-pound aluminum-clad laptop, which starts at $499 for a Linux operating system and $599 for Windows Vista. The device, which comes with an 8.9-inch high-resolution screen and keyboard slimmed down by 8 percent, will be available through HP's corporate sales channels, HP.com and other online stores and will ship on April 15.
The Mini-Note is part of a new breed of lightweight, low-cost laptops designed for users who want easy portability and Internet access without a large price tag. Taiwanese PC manufacturer Asus helped shine a light on the category last year with the introduction of the Eee PC, a line of compact notebooks starting at $300. ASUS estimates that it will sell 5 million Eee PCs by the end of the year.
Other PC vendors such as Acer are expected to unveil their own ultra-portables in summer. Last week at its Developer Forum, Intel showed off its new power-efficient Atom processors, which will power upcoming light laptops called netbooks.
"You can see from the success of the Eee PC, it looks like 2008 will be the year of the ultra-portable device," said Michael Gartenberg, an analyst with Jupiter Research.
The HP Mini-Note will be marketed to school districts looking to outfit their students with laptops, as well as business travelers looking for a convenient companion device.
HP executives hope the Mini-Note will drive sales with those two groups through its basic features, which also include a 1.2-GHz processor, 1 GB of memory, a 120-GB hard drive, an internal collision guard that protects the drive when the laptop is dropped, and a Webcam that comes standard in the Windows edition.
Technology analyst Rob Enderle said HP's move into ultra-portables will help set an early bar for rivals in terms of price and performance.
"This is hugely aggressive for HP because this is will establish a new price range for small notebooks," Enderle said. "We've had $400 to $500 laptops before, but they were big and heavy and you didn't want to give it to your child. This is a real laptop computer, not a crippled box."http://articles.sfgate.com

TiVo Premiere and Premiere XL Sport New Series4 Interface, Pandora, and Optional QWERTY Remote

TiVo Premiere and Premiere XL Sport New Series4 Interface, Pandora, and Optional QWERTY Remote

March 2nd, 2010 by Jeffrey L. Wilson
When you think TiVo, you think the premiere DVR. Now with the TiVo Series4, you may think of the recorder as the premier media center box.
TiVo Premiere and Premiere XL, which will arrive in early April, are two new TiVo boxes that sport a revamped HD interface, Flash, and options for discovering content that’s on the air, online (such as Amazon Video on Demand, Netflix), or recorded to the hard drive. But the partnerships don’t stop there; TiVo has wrangled up FrameChannel and Pandora, services that will also mosey over to the Series3 boxes.
Both new Series4 models will do up to 1080p output, rock CableCARD slots, and feature eSATA jacks for fast connections to external drives. The $299 TiVo Premiere can record approximately 45 hours of HD content to its 320GB HDD, while the $499 TiVo Premiere XL can record approximately 150 hours of HD content on its 1TB HDD (it also packs THX certification).
Also coming down the pipe is a new optional Bluetooth slider QWERTY remote, which will ship later this year for an undisclosed price. Sadly, it won’t come boxed with either Series4 box. A new Wireless N Adapter ($90) will go one sale when the Tivo Premiere is available for purchase, so you can connect the boxes to a home network.
